About RV Field Manual

RV Field Manual is an independent editorial publication about the systems that make a recreational vehicle habitable: water heaters, furnaces, air conditioners, refrigerators, toilets, batteries, inverters, solar, generators, awnings, and the hitch that holds the whole thing to the tow vehicle.

We cover how those systems work, how they fail, and what actually matters when you are choosing a replacement. Our readers are owners of travel trailers, fifth wheels, motorhomes, and camper vans in the United States — people who need a straight answer about a 12-volt water pump at nine o'clock at night in a campground.

What we do

We research and write buying guides, comparisons, and explanatory articles about RV equipment. Every article is built on three commitments:

• Specifications come from the manufacturer. When we cite a BTU rating, an amperage draw, a tank capacity, a tongue weight, or a physical dimension, that number comes from the manufacturer's documentation or the retailer's listing. We cite where it came from. A number we cannot source does not appear.
• Limitations get the same space as strengths. If a water heater needs a wider cutout than the one you are replacing, or an air conditioner draws more than a 30-amp service can give you while anything else is running, that belongs in the recommendation and not in the fine print.
• Fit is a question, not an assumption. RVs vary enormously between manufacturers, model years, and floor plans. We tell you what to measure and what to check on your own rig before you buy. We do not tell you a part fits your vehicle.

What we do not do

• We do not test products in the field. This is the most important thing to know about us, so we put it here rather than in a disclaimer. Our work is desk research: manufacturer documentation, installation and service literature, retailer listings, and the patterns that emerge across large numbers of owner reports. We never write as though we installed something ourselves.
• We do not quote customer reviews. Where owner feedback is informative we describe the pattern — a recurring complaint about a control board, a recurring note about a gasket — without reproducing anyone's words.
• We do not publish prices, star ratings, or availability. Those change hourly and a stale number is worse than no number. For current price and availability you go to the retailer's page, which is where our links take you.
• We do not run lists where every product is excellent. A roundup in which nothing is ruled out is an advertisement.

Editorial process

Articles go through a fixed sequence: product research, specification gathering from primary sources, drafting, a review pass against our editorial rules, a fact-check in which every sourced number is verified against its current listing, and a final compliance check before publication. Where sources disagree — and on RV specifications they often do — we say so in the article instead of quietly choosing the most flattering figure.
