Privacy Policy

This policy describes what information RV Field Manual ("we", "us", "our") collects when you visit rvfieldmanual.com (the "Site"), what we do with it, and what rights you have. It describes the Site as it actually operates today, not as a generic template. When what we run changes, this page changes first.
1. The short version
The Site is a collection of static pages. It sets no cookies of its own, runs no analytics, has no login, no comments, no newsletter, and no contact form. If you simply read an article, the only information that exists about your visit is the standard entry our web server writes to its log.
The two things that do involve other companies: our hosting provider keeps those server logs, and if you click through to Amazon, Amazon knows you arrived from us and applies its own privacy practices from that point on.
2. Information you give us
The only way to send us information is by writing to the address on our Contact page. If you do, we hold your email address, your name if you sign your message, and whatever the message contains — for as long as needed to deal with it, and then in our mailbox archive.
We use that correspondence to answer you and, in the case of a correction, to fix the article. We do not add you to any list, and we have nothing to add you to.
3. Information collected automatically
Like every web server, ours records a line for each request it serves. That entry contains your IP address, the time, the page requested, the HTTP status returned, your browser's user-agent string, and the referring page if your browser sent one. These logs exist so that we can diagnose faults and identify abusive traffic such as scraping or attempted intrusion.
We do not combine these logs with any other source, do not build profiles from them, and do not use them for advertising.
4. Cookies
The Site sets no cookies. There is no analytics cookie, no preference cookie, no advertising cookie, and no tracking pixel. Nothing on this site requires a consent banner, which is why you have not seen one.
Cookies do become involved once you leave. When you click a link to Amazon, Amazon sets its own cookies on its own domain to attribute the referral. Those cookies are Amazon's, governed by Amazon's privacy notice, and we can neither read nor control them. We see none of it — we do not receive your identity, your browsing on Amazon, or the contents of your basket. What we receive from Amazon is periodic aggregate reporting: how many clicks and qualifying purchases a link generated, with no information about who made them.
5. Who else processes your data
Hosting
The Site is hosted on a server operated by Hetzner Online GmbH in Helsinki, Finland, within the European Union. Hetzner processes the server logs described above on our behalf as a data processor.
Domain and email
Our domain registration and the mailbox behind our contact address are provided by Aruba S.p.A., in Italy, within the European Union. Email you send us is stored on their systems.
Amazon
We participate in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program. Amazon's handling of your data begins when you follow a link to their site and is governed by their own privacy notice. See our Affiliate Disclosure for how the programme works.
What we do not use
We do not use Google Analytics or any other analytics platform, any advertising network, any social media tracking pixel, any content delivery network, any comment system, any email marketing platform, or any A/B testing or session recording tool. We do not sell, rent, or trade personal information, and we have no arrangement under which anyone could pay for it.
6. Legal bases for processing (GDPR)
- Legitimate interest for server logs — operating the Site securely and diagnosing faults. The data is minimal, retained briefly, and used for nothing else.
- Legitimate interest for correspondence — answering a message you chose to send us.
We rely on consent for nothing, because we do nothing that requires it. If that ever changes, consent will be requested before the change takes effect, not after.
7. Your rights in the EU and EEA (GDPR)
If you are in the European Union or the European Economic Area you have the right to: obtain a copy of the personal data we hold about you; have inaccurate data corrected; have your data erased; restrict how we process it; receive it in a portable, machine-readable form; object to processing based on legitimate interest; and withdraw any consent you have given.
To exercise any of these, write to us through the Contact page. We will respond within one month. In practice, for most visitors the answer will be that we hold nothing about you beyond a server log entry that has already expired.
You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority in your country of residence.
8. Your rights in California (CCPA/CPRA)
If you are a California resident you have the right to know what personal information we collect and for what purpose, to request its deletion, to correct inaccurate information, to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information, and not to be discriminated against for exercising any of these rights.
We do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined by the CCPA, and we have never done so. Requests go to the address on the Contact page.
9. How long we keep things
- Server logs: rotated and deleted on a rolling basis, normally within 30 days.
- Email correspondence: kept while the matter is open and archived afterwards, for no more than 24 months unless you ask us to delete it sooner or the exchange has ongoing significance such as a documented correction.
10. International transfers
The Site and its logs are in Finland, and our mailbox is in Italy: both within the European Union, so no transfer occurs for the data we hold.
Amazon is a United States company and processes data in the United States and elsewhere under its own safeguards. That processing begins when you leave this site by following a link, and is between you and Amazon.
11. Children
This Site is written for adults who own or are buying recreational vehicles and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, write to us and we will delete it.
12. Security
All traffic to the Site is encrypted with HTTPS. The Site serves static files and runs no application code, no database, and no user accounts, which means there is very little to attack and nothing stored here to steal. Administrative access to the server is restricted to key-based authentication.
No system is perfectly secure, and we make no absolute guarantee.
13. Changes
When this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it. A change that materially affects what we collect or who processes it will be described here rather than absorbed silently into the text.
